Best Tasting Sap!

Michigan’s maple syrup season is a time to “Taste the Tradition” and to celebrate as it is traditionally thought of as signifying the transition from our winter to spring time weather. With the hopes in March of freezing temperatures at night and daytime temperatures reaching in the lower 40’s with sunshine, the maple trees produce their sap for the sugar producers to evaporate into a tasty maple syrup.  Whether you have a backyard evaporator or a large producer, the art of making maple syrup is perfected no matter what the size of the operation. IN addition, maple syrup making is considered contagious and has a way of attracting anyone who has ever had the opportunity to make real maple syrup. Those who have visited the state’s Maple Sugar Shacks, experiencing the scent of sap boiling coupled with the taste of fresh maple syrup tell their friends and family of its uniqueness and its allurement as an event you will not want to miss!

Here are our recommendations to enjoy this best of this time of year:

🍁 The Michigan Maple Syrup Association hosts Maple Weekend events throughout Upper, Northern and Southern Michigan regions and you can check for the location and event times near you on the Michigan Maple Syrup Association website “ michiganmaple.org”. Many farms with maple trees offer syrup-making demonstrations, pancake breakfasts, and and a variety of other maple treats.

🔥 Visit a Sugar Shack –Many of the maple farms have a rich family history making maple syrup that dates back to several generations. There is no place better to watch the maple sap transform into golden syrup while at the same time, learning the science behind it and tasting the best maple syrup ever drawn off as it is being made.

🌳 Tapping Events – Depending on when you visit your local maple syrup event, you will observe and often participate in the skills of maple tree tapping and the science behind forest conservation. Maple forests are typically self-sustaining, especially if the forest is organically  certified which, with the sugar operation and syrup handling, exhibit some of the best process controls not normally followed with non-organic maple syrup producers.

🎁 Maple-Themed Treats – Many of Michigan’s Maple syrup operations have their favorite recipes for maple-infused goodies like maple-glazed donuts, fudge, and even maple BBQ sauce. The use of maple syrup is exhibited best within the maple producing families and recipe sharing is a standard practice among them.

📸 Social Media Fun – Still wondering or curious about what to expect while visiting a family farm producing Michigan’s best maple syrup, then we suggest that you visit many of the social media sites for further information such as ours which is under MapleWorxz, or the social media site of the Michigan Maple Syrup Association or “mmsa”. There are many Michigan maple syrup producers that have social media pages which when paired with one of the 20 Michigan Maple Weekend sites throughout the state, will provide you with anticipation to plan your visit.

Michigan’s maple syrup season is short so don’t miss out on a family event that provides one of the best educational and tasting experiences by visiting a sugar shack near you! 🍁🔥
