- 8 cups Prepared Popped Popcorn Your chioce of Popcorn but the larger the better
- 8 tbsp Unsalted Butter 1 Stick
- 1 cup Maple Syrup Any grade but dark is more flavorful.
- 2 cups Crushed Nuts We like Pecans and Almonds
Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat, stirring until it is just a light brown which is three to four minutes typically.
Add the maple syrup and stir the butter and syrup ingredients together.
Add nuts and salt and continue cooking over low heat while stirring for about 4 minutes or more until the mixture begins to thicken slightly and when a small amount scooped into a spoon forms a thread when dropped from the spoon.
Swirl the caramel mixture over the popcorn, tossing lightly until the caramel is throughout the popcorn as much as possible.
Now its ready to serve of to store in a container in the refrigerator.
We have used salted nuts, almond, pecans and cashews with great success. The risk in making this recipe is that it is hard to stop eating once one begins!
